Learning is not over once you graduate from high school … or your first time through college, either, whether you attend for a few courses, or acquire a degree. Learning is intended to be a lifelong event – a ‘forever’ experience – and studies even confirm the positive impact of an active mind on reversing the onset of the cognitive decline often initiated by Alzheimer’s disease. Therefore, the choice to continue taking advantage of learning opportunities throughout your life would be a wise choice indeed! Now, in this age of technology, it is more convenient than ever to literally learn something new every day through online learning experiences. Whether you choose to simply ‘google’ something you are interested in, and continue clicking from one site to another to benefit from the wealth of information available – or decide to enroll in a structured online course or degree program – learning opportunities abound online!
It doesn’t matter if you are 17 or 77 – or anywhere in between or beyond – you can choose to be a lifelong learner! Age truly does not matter when it comes to learning – the Internet, used properly, is a fabulous tool towards facilitating that aspiration. Consider these basic options for online learning:
- complete your G.E.D., if you have not previously had the opportunity to do so
- take a course in an area of interest to increase your knowledge
- obtain necessary training, certification, or certificate of competency in a variety of fields
- acquire a degree: associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and/or doctorate
- pursue nearly any area of study you can imagine
- change directions and study something NEW – for interest’s sake or a career change
- network with other professionals in your area of expertise
- build and participate in an online community of like-minded individuals
These are but a few of the ‘basics’ of online learning opportunities available!
Another benefit of lifelong learning online is its capability to change with the times – instead of becoming outdated or static, online learning is dynamic, as new learning materials can be developed and added with each new discovery, invention, innovation, or historical event. Likewise, new career opportunities arise and thus offer new learning experiences. Technology and medical fields, in particular, are expanding as human knowledge progresses – with previously unidentified careers in such fields as biotechnology, aerospace technology, micro- and nanotechnology, health information technology, and many specialized health fields particularly for brain and heart surgery, as well as advancements in treating specific diseases.
There is no better time than NOW to begin – or continue – on the path to lifelong ‘forever’ learning!
